What went down
From ep 3 Chase questions Gary's instructions, and Gary calls him a 'know-it-all.' The friction continues in ep 4 over orders and breaks. In ep 8 Gary twists Chase's private concerns about Alex into 'lazy' and 'livid,' and Chase's trust is broken. In ep 12 the deckhands agree to bypass Gary and talk to each other directly.
How it landed
It improved by the end. At the reunion Gary admitted he had managed poorly.
